Poland - the 5th fastest growing economy in the EU...
...and the 5th fastest growing producer of wind energy in the world
In addition to what I wrote about the Polish economy last time, I would like to share with you some of the conclusions from two reports published by the European Commission and the World Wind Energy Association, that indicate the dynamism of development of Poland.
The first paper by the European Commission ranks the fourteen biggest economies in the EU. According to this study, Poland is the 5th fastest growing economy in the EU in terms of GDP and production. However, the report also points out weaknesses in reference to other European countries. These still are: low rate of employment, relatively smaller amount of professional labor and lower rate of investments in new technologies and machines than in other countries.
The second study by the WWEA ranks Poland as the 5th fastest growing producer of wind energy in the world. It does not mean that Poland is the top producer of this type of energy in the world, among the 74 largest producers, Poland is 24th with the capacity of production about 276 MW. However, the hight position in the ranking shows that in the last couple of years the dynamism of production of wind energy in Poland was growing very rapidly and that it increased by 80% in the last three years. The faster growing producers were, Turkey (220%), China (127%), Czech Republic (102%) and New Zealand (88%). The study is available on the website of the WWEA: http://www.wwindea.org/home/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=198&Itemid=43
These two reports are not a coincidence and give additional outlook on the fast economic progress making by Poland in last couple of years. Furthermore, despite the economic turmoil in the world economy since the November 2007 and worldwide slowdown, forecasts for Poland remain quite bright with GDP estimation in 2008 about 6 or 6.5 % and rate of inflation lower than 3,5%.
