Book Sale for a Good Cause
The Hatfield Library is currently collecting items for use in the Friends of the Library book sale, which will take place Friday, January 27, 2006 from 9:00-5:00 in the 24-hour study room. The library is collecting used books, as well as CD’s, tapes, and videos, but must exclude damaged materials, older textbooks, and magazines. These donations are all tax-deductible. This year, the Friends of the Library has decided that all proceeds from the book sale will go to help an academic library damaged in the recent hurricanes.
To donate, mark your bags, boxes, or individual books with Friends of the Library, and drop them off at the Hatfield Library circulation desk, or in the Administrative Assistant’s office. Again, all used books are welcome, but we especially encourage art and photography books, fiction and literature, mysteries and westerns, cookbooks, nature and gardening books, children’s books, and books on the Northwest.
Questions should be directed to Julie, at 503-370-6312.

New Faces, New Places
You may have noticed some new faces among the Hatfield Library staff this year, and some recognizable faces in new places.
Deborah Dancik began in July as the new University Librarian. She comes to us from the University of Alberta, where she was Associate Director.
Also, Liz Butterfield returned to the Hatfield Library after four years away, taking over as Circulation Services Coordinator. Previously, Liz had been in charge of the Interlibrary Loan department before leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Lastly, Bill Kelm earned his Masters in Library Science earlier this year, and was appointed as the Systems Librarian. He previously held the position of Circulation Services Coordinator.

New Website Quite a Sight
The Hatfield Library’s website (http://library.willamette.edu) has a new look, and will be continuing to evolve as the year goes on. However, this wasn’t simply an aesthetic upgrade. Among the site’s new features:
The new “How-to” pull-down box on the front page. Each option includes tips on how to find different materials, including DVDs, student recitals, and government information, among others.
The Library Account button along the top of the page. For now, use this link to view your account, including books checked out and books requested through Summit. In the upcoming months, an Interlibrary Loan section will be added, for tracking ILL requests. Also, for students, we will be adding a personalized class schedule, with links to reserve materials.
The Hathelp feature for instant messaging, described in an earlier news article.
An improved Contact Us page, making it easier to track down the person with the answer to your questions.
