New Projector
The projector in the library classroom was upgraded over the winter break. The new Mitsubishi projector is practically noiseless, and it produces sharp images that display in great detail while the classroom lights are on. In tandem with the new computers added last fall, teaching library instruction will be much more effective.

New Online Journals
The ability for Willamette's students & faculty to have online access to academic journal articles was significantly increased when the Hatfield Library implemented contracts with two of the world's largest publishing groups, a move which expanded our online offerings by more than 2,000 journal titles.
Journal titles now available from ScienceDirect range from Aquatic Toxicology to Business Horizons; from Computational Statistics & Data Analysis to History of European Ideas; from Journal of Archaeological Science to Tetrahedron & Tetrahedron Letters.
Journal titles now available from SpringerLink range from Foundations of Physics to Jewish History; from Journal of Business Ethics to Journal of Family Violence; from Microbial Ecology to Social Indicators Research.
These journals are fully electronic, and are accessible from any computer through the library’s homepage. Both ScienceDirect and SpringerLink are listed in the Databases A-Z list.
The Hatfield Library was able to procure these online services at an acceptable pricing structure through its participation in the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a regional consortium of over 30 academic library systems in Oregon & Washington.

Computer Upgrades
The Hatfield Library upgraded its computers during the winter break. There are now 12 public PCs on the first floor and 21 on the second floor with the same software and tools found in the computer labs on campus. Willamette Integrated Technology Services (WITS) staff installed software on the new computers, and will provide ongoing help with maintenance. Available applications include word processing, spreadheets, and internet browsing. Access to these public PCs is limited to Willamette students, staff, and faculty.
