Did You Know?

Did you know the library recently acquired The Shawshank Redemption and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (filmed right here in Salem) on DVD?

If not, you might be interested in a fun feature on our catalog page which lists items acquired by the library in the last month. There are separate lists for books and videos/DVDs, both of which are updated monthly.

These lists are also accessible from the library's catalog page, under the box labelled View New Items. Enjoy!

Image Databases

Academic Search Premier and MasterFILE Premier both have a new image searching feature. On the initial search page, there is a button labeled Images in the green bar across the top of the page.

From the new page that pops up, you can search for photos of people (e.g. Einstein), natural science photos (e.g. deer), photos of places (e.g. Eiffel Tower), historical photos (e.g. first human footprint on the surface of the moon), maps (e.g. map of Oregon), and flags (e.g. Iraq).

This is similar to Google's image database, only with more of an academic slant. Try it to spice up that next PowerPoint!
