Library Has Two New Databases
The Hatfield Library has added two new databases.
CAMIO offers art images that are rights-cleared for educational use. The database has about 95,000 art images — photographs, paintings, sculpture, decorative and utilitarian objects, prints, drawings and watercolors, jewelry and costumes, textiles and architecture — plus audio, video and mixed media.

Archive Grid offers detailed, archival collection descriptions written by archivists and collection descriptions from more than 2,500 libraries, museums and archives worldwide.

New Database to Stimulate Your Appetite
In the mood for a new dish? Culinary Arts Collection provides full text coverage of the world of cooking and nutrition, from amateur cooks to professional chefs, in a variety of settings from small catering businesses, to fast food, sit down restaurants, and large food processing operations.
You can also search for recipes, restaurant reviews, and obtain industry information.

Three New Management Databases
The Hatfield Library is happy to introduce three new databases that are of primary interest to the Atkinson Graduate School of Management. All are full-text databases and are included in the library's A-to-Z database list.
Business & Company Resource Center is a great starting point when you are looking for company specific information, since it accesses over a dozen corporate & industry directories. You can search for company information by several different methods, and it also contains Market shares and Rankings within an industry.
Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Collection focuses on both the historical and current state of affairs in the hospitality and tourism field, while also allowing for focused study of specialized aspects of the industry - including cultural aspects of travel, leisure activities, and economic aspects of tourism.
Small Business Resource Center has information on how to start, finance or manage your small business. Resources include sample business plans, how to guides, articles and websites.

The database is a next generation consumer market research tool that delivers sophisticated demographic, segmentation, and targeting data for media planners and consumer marketers.

The Hatfield Library has a new preferred search alerting service, which can allow you to store a search within your library account.

Biosis Previews and Pubmed
The Hatfield Library has switched vendors for two databases: Biosis Previews (1990-present) and PubMed (1950-present).
You will notice a difference in the interface — they are more intuitive and have more consistent results than the previous interface. Biosis Previews & PubMed are both geared toward the life sciences.

New Databases
The Hatfield Library has added two new databases:
1. ORIL--Oxford Reports on International Law
In addition to its expansive coverage and regular updates, Oxford Reports on International Law offers users enhanced case reports which contain high quality commentary and analysis. Case reports include headnotes, summary of case facts and judicial holdings, full text of the opinion of the courts, analytical commentary from scholarly experts, accurate translations of non-English judgments, and a list of cases and instruments cited.
2. Encyclopedia of Public International Law
Written by over 650 scholars and practitioners from around the world and edited by a team from the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. This online resource includes more than 700 new topics, not covered in the previous print edition, and is updated quarterly.
Both are listed on the Databases A-Z list and are provided through Willamette's J.W. Long Law Library.

New Environmental Database
The Hatfield Library now has access to GreenFILE, a freely accessible research database focusing on the relationship between human beings and the environment, with well-researched but accessible information on topics ranging from global warming to recycling to alternate fuel sources and beyond.
Comprised of scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports, GreenFILE offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the ecology. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE will serve as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet.
The database can be also found in the library's A-Z list.

New Education Database
The Hatfield Library has added the Education Full Text database from the H. W. Wilson Company to its list of full text databases.
In addition to delivering the full text for hundreds of academic journals in the field of education, going back as far as 1983, Education Full Text offers a richer search experience from its predecessor, Education Index, because of the addition of abstracts that are now searchable.
Education Full Text is the ideal database to turn to for research topics on any aspect of education, ranging from nursery schools to colleges.

Catalog Upgrade
The Hatfield Library Catalog was updated over the break with some new features many users will come to find useful.
Not only is a new relevance ranking used for keyword searching, but now individual records will often contain book cover images provided by Amazon and links out to Amazon and Google Books.
These services offer additional information such as descriptions, reviews, pricing, and some or all of the book's content. Information varies by publication and service.

Hoovers Database
The Hatfield Library has added the Hoovers database, which is designed to provide insight into companies & executives. Hoovers is produced by a division of Dun & Bradstreet, the well-known business service provider.
Hoovers allows you to:
- Access comprehensive company database
- Review key executive profiles
- Analyze complete industry coverage
- Build lists based on companies or executives
- View detailed company fact sheets with financials, executives, and more
- Get breaking news and lists of IPOs
- Find companies using stock and financial performance parameters
In addition to being of interest to students in Business, Management, and Economics, it can also be a helpful resource for people who are job hunting. Hatfield Library's subscription offers a higher level of service from Hoovers than is offered freely to the public at large.
Politics Databases
The Hatfield Library has added two politics databases.
The first is the U.S. Congressional Documents Collection, which features the bound and daily versions of Congressional Record, its three predecessor titles, and other important congressional material.
The second is HeinOnline's U.S. Presidential Library, which includes such titles as Messages and Papers of the Presidents, Public Papers of the Presidents, CFR Title 3 (Presidents), Weekly Compilation of the Presidential Documents, and other documents relating to U.S. presidents.

RefWorks
The Hatfield library has added RefWorks to its list of research tools.
RefWorks is a web-based bibliography management and citation tool. It is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies. It converts to hundreds of citation formates quickly and easily.
RefWorks allows users to access their citations from any Web-connected source. References can be imported & exported from various resources, such as EndNote or generic Web sites, or can be entered manually. Tutorials are available in print or electronic (video) forms.

Wall Street Journal
The Hatfield Library now has full-text access to the Wall Street Journal back to 1984.
New Look for ILL
The Library's Interlibrary Loan system has a new look. Among the new features are a chart of your outstanding requests which appears when you log in, giving patrons more ability to track their books and articles.

New Music Database
The Hatfield Library has added the Classical Music Library from Alexander Street to its list of databases.
The Classical Music Library includes recordings of music written from the earliest times (eg Gregorian Chant) to the present, including many contemporary composers. Repertoire ranges from vocal and choral music, to chamber, orchestral, solo instrumental, and opera.

New Database
The Hatfield Library has added CQ Researcher to its list of databases.
A full-text database, CQ Researcher contains unbiased coverage of health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy.

Google Scholar
From now on whenever you search Google Scholar from campus, a link will appear when the library can provide access to an article.
The link appears as "Get it at WU."
You can also configure your Scholar preferences to get this same feature when you are working from off-campus.

WebPrint
Beginning on Monday, Feb. 12, all computers in the Hatfield Library will be set up to use WebPrint. This system is designed to keep a record of pages printed by each user in an effort to eliminate wasted paper.
WebPrint was designed by WITS but was created in conjunction with the university's sustainability council. It is also the software used by patrons with laptop computers.
WITS has created a page with more information regarding WebPrint.

SAGE Journals Online
Journals published by SAGE are now online. SAGE publishes over 460 journals in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology and Medicine.
New Politics Databases
The Hatfield Library has added three new politics databases, all of which can be found in our Databases A-Z list.
Constitutions of the Countries of the World: Contains the full text for the constitutions of 187 countries. Constitutional scholars who are familiar with the legal system, judicial language and official language of each foreign jurisdiction provide authoritative translations into English.
Constitutions of the United States: Consists of the most complete and up-to-date U.S. constitutions: each of the 50 state constitutions; constitutions of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia; and, the United States Constitution
Constitutions of Dependencies and Territories: This invaluable source consists of the most complete and up-to-date expert English translations of the constitutions of territories and dependencies and relevant federal constitutional provisions that define the relationship between the state and dependencies and territories. The author provides commentary that describes the interaction of the federal constitution with that of the dependency or territory.

Book Review Digest Plus
Hatfield Library has recently acquired Book Review Digest Plus from H.W. Wilson.
The database provides indexing to book reviews, as well as selected full text reviews from 1983 to the present. Included are reviews from the print version of Book Review Digest, as well as book reviews indexed in 11 other H.W. Wilson indexes, with a total of 1,300,000 reviews of over 660,000 book titles.

HeinOnline
The library's newest database, HeinOnline, provides the entry way to a database of over 1,200 law review journals.
While William S. Hein & Co., Inc. has been an American legal publisher for over 80 years, HeinOnline began in 2000 with just 25 journals. It has since expanded to its current size, containing more than 600,000 articles from 21,000 volumes of material.
This database is made available through the J.W. Long Law Library.

Law Database Added
The Hatfield Library has added a new database: International Law in Domestic Courts.
It is a regularly updated repository of domestic cases in international law from over 60 jurisdictions, from the years 2000 - present.

New E-Journals
The library's online access to journal articles published decades ago was just expanded with the addition of 88 journals available from the JSTOR database. Every journal that participates with JSTOR is searchable & retrievable, back to Volume #1. The bulk of this recent expansion is in the areas of Business, Education, Law, Psychology and interdisciplinary aspects of the social sciences.
Some examples of the deep timespans covered by these titles are "The English Journal" starting in 1912; "Milbank Quarterly" and its predecesors covering public policy since 1923; "Law and Contemporary Problems" since 1933, and "The American Journal of Psychology" since 1887!
Among the more than 600 journals that are available online from JSTOR, the oldest journal is "Philosophical Transactions" which has been focusing on biological sciences since the year 1665!
In addition, the library added 30 titles from Berkeley Electronic Press, in the fields of Economics, Law, Marketing, Public Policy and interdisciplinary aspects of the Social Sciences.
Hatfield Library provides access to this growing collection of online academic journals directly from our Journal Title Listing service, and through article level links found inside more than 100 databases which we offer to the Willamette University community.

New ILL Software
The library will begin using new software for Interlibrary Loan beginning the week of August 21. This will allow users more control over their requests, as each user will have their own account to keep track of what they have requested and each item's status.
More information will be available as we introduce the software.

Historical Statistics
The library's newest database is the Historical Statistics of the United States. This includes census and other data, and coverage runs from colonial times to approximately 2000.

New Newspaper Database
The library has added Early American Newspapers, Series I to its database list. The database provides full text to over 700 newspapers, with dates covering 1690-1876.
This will be an excellent source for primary research in early American history.

Image Databases
Academic Search Premier and MasterFILE Premier both have a new image searching feature. On the initial search page, there is a button labeled Images in the green bar across the top of the page.
From the new page that pops up, you can search for photos of people (e.g. Einstein), natural science photos (e.g. deer), photos of places (e.g. Eiffel Tower), historical photos (e.g. first human footprint on the surface of the moon), maps (e.g. map of Oregon), and flags (e.g. Iraq).
This is similar to Google's image database, only with more of an academic slant. Try it to spice up that next PowerPoint!

The Hatfield Library has created a page for various powertools to aid online research. These can be easily and safely loaded onto your computer to make searching the library's website (or any other) quicker, no matter where your research takes you. Check it out!

New Online Journals
The ability for Willamette's students & faculty to have online access to academic journal articles was significantly increased when the Hatfield Library implemented contracts with two of the world's largest publishing groups, a move which expanded our online offerings by more than 2,000 journal titles.
Journal titles now available from ScienceDirect range from Aquatic Toxicology to Business Horizons; from Computational Statistics & Data Analysis to History of European Ideas; from Journal of Archaeological Science to Tetrahedron & Tetrahedron Letters.
Journal titles now available from SpringerLink range from Foundations of Physics to Jewish History; from Journal of Business Ethics to Journal of Family Violence; from Microbial Ecology to Social Indicators Research.
These journals are fully electronic, and are accessible from any computer through the library’s homepage. Both ScienceDirect and SpringerLink are listed in the Databases A-Z list.
The Hatfield Library was able to procure these online services at an acceptable pricing structure through its participation in the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a regional consortium of over 30 academic library systems in Oregon & Washington.

Ebook Collection Increases
The Hatfield Library recently acquired 400 new titles of the Business, Technology and Medicine Collection, which is one part of a shared e-Book Collection. This collection is particularly strong in the areas of business, computer science, technology, medicine and science. These e-Books are available online through the netLibrary database, which is listed under Databases A-Z on the library's website.

Improved Library Account
The Library has recently launched a new feature inside the Library Account which allows patrons to track their Interlibrary Loan requests. This feature will appear at the bottom of a patron’s library account only if there are existing Interlibrary Loan requests.

New York Times Online
The Hatfield Library has added access to the Historical New York Times to its growing collection of online databases. This database covers the years 1851-2002, and it provides full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. Also included are digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue.
This service is available to the Willamette community and can be found on the Database List A-Z under the letter "H" or "N."

New Website Quite a Sight
The Hatfield Library’s website (http://library.willamette.edu) has a new look, and will be continuing to evolve as the year goes on. However, this wasn’t simply an aesthetic upgrade. Among the site’s new features:
The new “How-to” pull-down box on the front page. Each option includes tips on how to find different materials, including DVDs, student recitals, and government information, among others.
The Library Account button along the top of the page. For now, use this link to view your account, including books checked out and books requested through Summit. In the upcoming months, an Interlibrary Loan section will be added, for tracking ILL requests. Also, for students, we will be adding a personalized class schedule, with links to reserve materials.
The Hathelp feature for instant messaging, described in an earlier news article.
An improved Contact Us page, making it easier to track down the person with the answer to your questions.

Looking for assistance with a tough question? First time in a research class? The Hatfield Library is here to help. Beginning this term, the Hatfield Library is offering reference service via instant messenger. Help is available through AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo Messenger, and MSN Messenger, under the username "hathelp."
In addition, reference help remains available through email at library@willamette.edu, phone (503-370-6560), and in person at the reference desk. Also, in-depth research consultations on a specific subject are available by contacting our librarians. Each of these services may be used during normal reference hours.
