Starting a Club!!!

And this is my last blog it is like 1240 am and I am writing this because I think it is good info!!! To start a club of something that interests you at Willamette University does not take much time.It will consist of you getting 10 people that have your same interest , find an adviser and write a constitution (this last one being a little time consuming). This will then go to be approved by a student organization and then if it is approved, wala, you have a club! I am telling you this because i am starting a club now called Willamette Investment Club and we are recruiting people that are interested in the financial sector and going through the process of requesting funding from our school. If this works out ( the funding ) we will be investing real money into the stock market and learning how our economy works. This process will not be easy though and we are taking this very seriously, so if you are interested in the financial world come on by and if you want to start your own club do so also!!

Scholarships!!

One thing i tell many people at the University is take advantage of the scholarships and opportunities that Willamette can offer. I just received a Kemper scholarship that is only offered to freshman in the university and it is dedicated to people that are interested in business and I know that Willamette does not offer a business degree but this opportunity is here and available for all incoming freshman. it consists of three to eight thousand dollars a year for school for the next three years and an amazing opportunity to go to Chicago for the summer of your sophomore year and get a stipend to do an internship at a non profit, and the summer of your junior year you have to work at a for profit organization of your choice any where in the world!!! and that is amazing. this scholarship is only awarded to 15 liberal arts schools across the US and for the past 3 years Willamette has not only had one Kemper scholar but two a year!! The opportunities are their all you have to do is look for them and pursue it!!

interesting!!

So i have not written in a while and I know i am kind of bad at these thing' s, but I am trying! as fo me been just busy with school and I did something terrific like go on a Take A Break trip to Newark New Jersey to do community service and it was great!! This is a program that I personally like a lot and hope that it grows into more, it consists of going to do community service during your spring break and to some of you this might seem like it sucks, but in reality it is a great and amazing opportunity for you to do something meaningful during spring break and get to see some amazing parts of the country through a different perspective. Some trips deal with, poverty, education, the border and immigration, sustainability, fish and forest and shelters. My trip was focused on a shelter for children in NJ and it turned out to be a great experience! We basically ran a spring break for the kids during 4 days and had a pretty rough start and found out that if you do not have any structure in a program it wll be hard to control kids ages 4-13. SO the first day was a learning experience, and that night after a long day we went back to the place where we were staying and reflected on our experience, gave our program some structure and some rules and after that it was a lot easier to control the kids and also have a meaningful experience with them and at the end it all payed off!! The kids were wonderful and i felt that we mutually learned a lot from each other. We also visited the Aids Resource for Children Foundation and that was a great experience also, while raking leaves and moving bikes was helpful for the foundation we got insight into the way a non profit works and how they started off and it is amazing to see how the vision and hard work of a couple of people turn into homes and help for children with aids. We also during this trip take a day to go out and explore ourselves and we decided to go to NYC and do all the touristy things in New York and visit Times Square, China town, Empire state building and more. this was our way of getting to see some of the big apple while still helping others.
