monday night
Life is normal with Japanese classes in action. I was a calm evening with to do. I tried to organize all papers around the desk and make LLC a better place ;).

The cherry blossoms are ridicoulously beautiful!
I just can't stand how amazingly beautiful are the cherry blossoms ... they overwhelm me and I want to become a cherry blossom tree or eat one or sleep on one... I still don't discover what is the cherry blossom tree telling me to do... I think I am in love with the cherry blossom trees... that must be it.
Besides that, the shift was quiet. I would like to meet up with Beyza, Andy, Zhanna, and Natalia to talk about independent learner, could you please let me know of some days that would be better? Thank you!

I finally got my time sheet set up, also was added to map the LLC network drive, but haven't been able to access it...
I helped Tatiana cropped a picture of herself and put her personal pictures on flickr. we maxed out the uploading capacity on flickr, so we need to finish (added up to .030) tomorrow. these pictures are on computer N or my H drive, since i couldn't get on the LLC drive

back again, back again
There was lots of successful Skyping going on; it was quite exciting to hear the goulash of languages. I worked blissfully on the language blogs in their midst.

I see we have a snazzy new LLC sign...
Quiet shift, but started to fill up around the last 10 minutes.

Kelsey's Shift 7-9pm
Quiet shift. I talked to Howie, and a girl came in and I showed her how to use PCTV.
Posted by kherb at 09:06 PM
Thursday evening
Doreen brought Natalia an Easter basket. Jessa and I measured the new Willamette Abroad and WWN board upstairs for URL signs. Many people were in working, Beyza, Marta, some people using skype (or similar). Jessa is going to see Obama speak tomorrow at the fairgrounds and I am jealous - tickets are sold out.
Posted by aholthus at 05:12 PM
Thursday afternoon
Amy and I measured how big the sign should be for the url on the bulletin board upstairs (30 x 3) and talked to Natalia. We still need to figure out my time sheet...

Thursday
Nice shift, hope everyone's finals are going well.
Talked about the independent learner stuff with Natalia, I will post a quick summary of that in the extended entry so please read it.
Some Ideas:
-Instead of a separate Independent learner page, place a link under each language in the "Language Resources" menu.
-Add a "other languages" or "unoffered languages" section in the "Language Resources" drop down menu to include languages that are not offered.
-Re-organize all the language sections, recheck the links, etc.
-Add an about page or add to the information on the main page.
Any ideas or suggestions? I think this will work well but I also tend to get tunnel vision when I work on things...

It was a pleasant morning...I talked with Natalia and Kindra a bit. Ty was working on Russian, and Johanna came in to print a paper.
I downloaded Captivate 3 on computer L for Lucia, and the disc is on the third shelf of the software cabinet (for now). I'll put it in the CD folder once I get ahold of a label maker.
Other than that, I worked on updating department handouts.

Beer Mapping anyone?
Natalia was showing me some of the valuable things she learned while away with the ambassadors...many of which involve a wide variety of mapping technologies. People have mapped everything. You want ETs? We have UFO maps. You need a bathroom? Pee Maps. Thirsty? Beer Mapping is the way to go. It is pretty amazing. We are in the process of saving these tools on the LLC H drive in a folder labeled NITLE docs. Feel free to check it out.

Kelsey's Shift 7-9pm
It was quiet, Beyza and I did homework.
A ways into my shift, the DVD Howie was burning had an error message and it could not complete the transfer. The DVD is in the black cabinet.

classic's blog, etc.
I helped someone use Satellite TV and learned how to use Rosetta Stone. Kindra showed me how to create links and embed pictures within blogs so that I can begin the Classics blog (beginning with Hebrew) and Natalia showed me MERLOT and the Bryn Mawr LLC site for future resources/entries. So, I think I've successfully published my first Hebrew blog entry (was I supposed to post it?) BUT I still need to figure out my time sheet!
Also, anyone have ideas for the Willamette World News bulletin board?

Worked on the language blogs, by the way, for those writing, I realized I asked that the next blogs be finished by 3/28, which is during Spring Break. Haha, just have them done by the monday after Spring break. I also talked blogs with Natalia and Jessa. Lizzy and Lindsay worked on Spanish Rosetta and PCTV.

Today I facilitated skype for a girl wanting to do an interview with a Russian acting company. Neat. Also I read Andrew's blog (Cairo, Egypt) and was amazed at some of his pictures and stories. Great work. I also helped Prof. Yuchenko with her malfunctioning alarm clock... I think the power went out and it needs to be reset. Showed her how to do it and hopefully it'll work out fine.

Sascha's shift on Wednesday
Today was a productive and exciting day in the lab with Jacob, Misuzu, Marta, Johanna, Kindra, Kelsey, and Zhanna all in and around. I worked on my SA blog for the presentation and also prepared a small speech to go with it.
The presentation itself went very well with Heiki and myself presenting the LLC and our latest blog efforts. It was nice to see people excited about the possibilities that the blog offers. I really think that on

Lots of people came in, we keep having trouble with static on the microphones...
Someone is here holding an interview over skype, apparently the audio on the headphone/microphone doesn't work, I think it's just that we need to select it in skype.
