Centering a Web Page with CSS
In order to center a web page, one way is to put the following CSS into your code:
| fixed-width web page: | web page with liquid layout: |
#container {
|
#container {
|
along with the following HTML:
<body>
<div id="container">
...entire layout goes here...
</div>
</body>
IE does not always render CSS properly. Therefore, in order to make the page centered in IE, you must add the following:
| fixed-width: | liquid layout: |
body {
|
body {
|

Today was quite productive. I added the French and Spanish first/second year classes to the LLC's google calendar. Megan, Natalia, and I had a meeting with Eri, and we set up a to-do list for the near future. It is as follows:
My_____Labs: simple documentation for faculty
plan training for LLC staff and TAs
July 27th/Aug 24th are the trainings for staff
find classrooms that will be available for class orientations first week of fall semester
make a plan for classrooms that need equipment etc. for the term
What to expect:
add to MyGermanSpace on WISE
modify to include My______lab

Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View
In IE 8 there is a new feature called Compatibility View. If a website does not work well with IE 8, Compatibility View lets you view it in IE 7 while still allowing you to use the newer features in IE 8. You can turn Compatibility View on by going to the website you wish to view and clicking the button located next to the Refresh button or going to Tools > Compatibility View Settings and typing in the address of the website.

In the Compatibility View Settings, there is also an option for displaying all websites in Compatibility View.
Once this feature is turned on for a site, it will remain on until you turn it off (by re-clicking the Compatibility View button or removing the site from the Settings) or the site is updated for IE 8. The Compatibility View option is not available for sites already updated for IE 8.

Kelsey
The lab has been mostly empty today. Sydney came in. Also, Indira came in looking for Natalia.
I covered a shift, and talked with Andy and Jessa today. I started trying to digitize some audio tapes to CDs. I also wanted to digitize a video, but we are out of blank DVDs, so I think I will pick some of those up tomorrow morning. Other than that, I talked to Maria about the Sp Placement Exam a bit, spent a bit of time brainstorming, and tried to find humorous language videos on youtube.

Kelsey's morning
It was just Jose and me this morning. I talked with him a little about the video project, which he is burning right now.
I read through letters to TAs and faculty that Natalia sent me. I also finished cleaning out the managerial documents on my H-drive.
Jessa, when do you leave? It would be good to meet in person one more time. Otherwise, a phone conversation will work fine.
As an aside...I am really going to miss the LLC!

Me and Natalia successfully fixed the sound at the teaching station. The problem was that you need to choose Realtek Software as a default software for sound in the settings. And then restart the computer to save and execute these changes.

Megan's shift
A lady came in to the LLC looking for Natalia, then went to go see if Natalia was in her office. Simon came in to use a computer. I didn't get a chance to verify this, but when Severn came in to use a computer, he said that all the computers along the back wall (opposite the projector screen) don't automatically log on to the H-drive anymore.
I tried fixing the problem with the sound for the projector without any luck. At first the speakers weren't even plugged in, but that doesn't seem to be the only problem. I tried a lot of different things, but none of them worked. If someone figures out how to fix it, please let me know. I also made a list for Natalia of the people who attended the LLC lunch on Sunday.

Olga's shift
For about an hour taught a guy how to speak and write some Russian words. Maybe I should become a tutor? :). Also showed him how he can use WordChamp if he wants to learn to say more and said here are a bunch of Russian people around, so he can come and ask for help whenever he needs it
Couldn't find Roseta Russian CD part 1. Does anyone know where it can be? Tried other Rosetta CDs but they don't work. Can anyone check why they wouldn't work? I couldn't figure it out.
Will work on my WordChamp profile. Just want to have samples of what you can do with it to show to people if they are interested.

Vic Tues 3-5
Howie and Eri were here as well as Simon. I took a couple pictures to keep the LLC fresh in my mind post-graduation~
Checked the Cultural Events blog to see if there was an entry regarding the Okinawan workshop being put on by the JSSL. There was not, unfortunately, but I hope that this information can be updated next fall by whomever happens to be working here. It is difficult sometimes to hear about events from the JSSL since we aren't an ASWU-recognized student organization. I look forward to hearing about more cooperation between the LLC and JSSL in the coming years~

Great party on Sunday! Thank you all for coming! I was out all day -- sick at home with a fever. Sorry about no posts. Please DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SHIIFT WITHOUT LEAVING AN ENTRY!
I am hoping to be at work tomorrow. More later on this plan. Two more days of classes! Good luck!

Vic's Monday 3-5
Simon and Jose were chillin' when I showed up a little early today. Kelsey was on the computer but I didn't really talk to her that much. Amadou made his normal visit, but I guess Natalia was sick! I hope you feel better today, Natalia~
Practiced Japanese by watching some videos on YouTube. There are a lot of great resources (like tv programs and whatnot) to really help people get on with their abilities. I wish teachers would utilize these fun resources more often~
I hope everyone had an awesome time at the luncheon. I know I sure did. It was nice to break bread together, so to speak~

Megan's shift
Sydney came in to use a computer. Another student came in and had a problem with the keyboard on one of the computers. I changed it back to the English keyboard for him.
When I came in this morning, the video I had imported to a project on the Mac in the MMWR had been deleted. After re-importing the mini DV, I realized that the tape had actually been blank from the start. There turns out to have been some sort of mix up with the tape and we now have no idea where it could be.
@Kelsey: don't forget to email the llc.
@Natalia: a call came in for you from Beyza's sister and I sent you an email about it.
