Friday shift 12.30-3pm
Today we received our new/fixed computers back from the WITS tech shop. I helped Audrey install them again. Beyza was in and out. Two students were in doing spanishlab assignments. One is still here. Audrey is working on fixing our windows movie maker codec problem. Pascal has been tutoring like crazy. I am going to lock the SVR, and the key willbe in the heart basket. The lab was closed today during the middle of the day because Vlad was not here (he was not on campus and we couldn't find a cover).
If students are coming in over the weekend to work on the spanish dubbing. Groups # 2 and 4 can work on the teaching station computer and the computer directly to the left of it. Those two for sure work with those two videos. Groups #1 and 3 should be able to work anywhere in the lab. They'll know what to do about saving (save it in their folder locally on the desktop, and then make a copy of that folder when they are done on the external hard drive in the wooden shelf behind our stations).
I hope that everyone has a happy Halloween! If you need to get ahold of me my cell # is (206) 436 9909.

Andy's Shift
Tried to figure out what was causing the glitch with the Spanish videos (2&4 were not displaying correctly in moviemaker) Looked around online, but could not find anything specific to the situation. Audry may have found something, she is checking it out on another computer to see if it works.
An international student was looking at Tell Me More English, he did not have much time but just wanted to take a quick look. Carolina was here tutoring as well.

Sascha's Thursday 9.00-12.00 shift
Today Vlad and I presented to the Spanish class about the dubbing softwware and movie maker. Movie maker worked great, (the presentation went great too) except for one small problem. That problem was that with groups #2 and 4 the videos in WWM were all fuzzy and gray when they were being worked on together in the wwm. But! When you just worked on one clip, it totally was fine. Vlad figured out that when you saved the entire project (a final step) that it would also be fine. We had Audrey come in and help us, but it didn't seem to be working still. We will be working on this issue.
There is Spanish tutoring right now. One student from Austria is using english tellmemore. Eri is working on her Open house project. Marta is working on russian flashcards. Audrey is working on this problem (though I don't think for much longer) and Andy is also trying to fix it.
I'll be in tomorrow afternoon if anyone has any more issues... (I cover for Olya from 2-5pm).

Andy's 1:40-12:40
Checked out the headphones with Sascha and Natalia, we figured out that they need to be set in whatever program you are using. So, if you're using audacity go into preferences and make certain the input is set to USB Audio (2). For the moviemaker, go into the narration screen, then click on show details, and confirm that the USB Audio (2) is selected.
A student from Uggen's 3rd year class was asking about the My Spanish Lab as well, and he was being tutored by Carolinea (spelling?) Natalia showed them wordchamp, as they just needed to practice verbs.
Posted by anave at 12:44 PM
Sascha's Tuesday 8-11:40 shift
I cleaned off all lab surfaces today except the computer screens and the staff work station. Natalia came in and we discussed our plans for the spanish dubbing presentation and project which takes place on Thursday. Hayley and I worked on the moviemaker videos and went over again our knowledge base for the project.
Andy is having a breakthrough with using the new headphones--he is switching settings and exploring... good.
Eri is here working. Another Spanish student was here working on his myspanishlab.com. A German student is here as well working on facebook/skype. Another girl came in to learn Russian rosetta stone, but we could not get it to work. I will have to deal with this later on.

a city in the twilight, dim and vast,
with smoking roofs, soft bells, and gleaming lights.

Talked with Eri about the open house, and helped her making a flyer. Also puzzled over audacity with Marta, who was doing an audio cut for a french class. (Gouery-Richardson's class) It didn't work at first but opening a new window helped.

Today Eri and I talked about our "propaganda" for our LLC open house that we will be having on Nov. 10th (tenative). We're coming up with some great stuff, (check out our Action list) and are almost ready to start delegating out some tasks to the individual language liaisons.
I turned on the lights for Pascal and his French tutorees. Also Pablo is here tutoring now. Sydney is working here as well (she is looking at some stuff ab out the Anarchists Cookbook...)
I loaned out one Intermediate Japanese Tell Me More Audio CD to an independant learner who is working now in the lab. Please make sure we get that disk back in the black binder!

Student named Ronelle came in for help with her Spanish homework. I showed her the resources in MySpanishLab, she said she never new the resources where there. She came from Gustavo Fonesco's 100 level class.
Replaced the water jug in the lounge.

a) Now the IE on the PC in her office is ready and updated for MyFrenchLab
and
b)
I will be re-ordering the tracks in "resources" for each chapter,
re-cutting the tracks as well in the order that would allow students to

Andy just arrived here. I erased half of the white board drawings, but then Megan told me they were our designs for the t shirts... Now we have 1.5 designs. I apologize guys.
I researched audacity's ability to cut mp3s for the French Collage re structuring project. Megan showed me how easy it was.
The party was a whole lotta fun yesterday! See you guys later!

Sascha's Friday 1-4 shift
Today I helped an independent learner get set up with German help. She was really excited about it. I made sure that I knew how the sound worked on the teaching station for Blanco's dubbing class. A student also needed help with her myspanishlab access code. She had apparently bought the code new, and then it said that it had been used. Vlad and I tried to work our way around that in the login stages, but when that didn't work we got on live chat with tech support and tried to resolve it. That still didn't work out because he just confirmed that it had been used. He reccommended that she go to the book store and ask for a new code.
Then. Madame Goury-Richardson came in and asked about restructuring the WISE French Collage Audio mp3s. We talked for a long time about what needed to be done. I have posted the document on the action item list of Marta, Megan, and myself. Also I have put the stuff on google documents for the LLC as well.
See you at the party.

16:00-18:30 ~<>Beyza<>~
A muy busy shift:
French, Spanish, and Russian tutoring (Pascal, Alejandra, Pablo, Marta all here)
One student used TellMeMore intermediate Japanese
Another student, Slater, came in to use Rosetta Stone in Arabic
Imported Russian Audio and burned a CD for
one beginner student studying Russian (Elementary 131 Russian)
Participated in some cross cultural exchange
w/ Pascal and his Japanese student
Dimitry's been bugging me all shift haha
But he's only visiting....thankfully :-)
One last thing to fellow LLCers:
Every once in a while please check all computer DVD players
because today for instance, i noticed that
Rosetta Stone in Russian was missing
So i checked every computer and found it secretly resting
in one of the computer's DVD drive
That's all folks!

Vladimir Thursday 1:30-4 pm
One student came, she had a problem with her MS Word 2000. The Spanish spelling tool does not work. She asked if we can recommend her any actions that she should make. We recommended her to try Open Office. She promised to let us know if it helped or not.
If you know some other ways to help her, please let us know.

The Data projector automatically defaults to "DVD 1" and thus invalidates any sound
You need to press "Computer" once you turn on the Data projector and the sound will return
The missing Arabic Rosetta Stone was in one of the computer's DVD drives
But is now safely tucked into the black case w/ all the language learning CD's
Helped one student with his Spanish homework (Intermediate 201)
Updated LLC Spanish Website Action List
Reformatted the "WITS STAFF PHONE NUMBER LIST" into an Excell Spreadsheet
It is now printed and pasted on the wall near all the schedules

Sascha's shift
Blanco's class was here today doing Spanish dubbing. When they tried to get the sound on our teaching station to work, it did not. When I tried for 30 minutes to get it to work, it still did not work. I really wanted it to start working, especially because it was in front of a class. I got pretty "deep" into the settings and such, but maybe I was missing a simple button or a simple check box somewhere... If anybody knows anything about this, or has any ideas, please try and get it fixed. And then tell everyone about it.
Eri, Andy, and Marta are here. Pablo too, though he is working on his own things. We are looking forward to our party tomorrow.
Make sure to write down WHO you helped while on shift, and WHAT class they are from. (What professor preferably...) That way we can try and keep a record of who's who.
