Andy's Shift

Quiet, the group from next door borrowed two chairs. Natalia had a meeting for Russian.

Internet pirates!! Which is unfortunate, but fortunate in that I (uh, I mean "we") got to use the word "rapacious."
Arrrrr, arrrr matey avast avast ye scurvy dogs, etc.

I am accidentally covering my own shift. Ha. Try and figure out how that one worked.
Plan to graciously offer headphones to whoever needs them and will say hi howdy to Natalia after she goes on a coffee excursion.
PS All of the times on the LLC computers are wrong. I shall change the ones I can but please check later to get the ones I missed. Or "ghost" the times or whatever.
PPS Never mind. They change back to the wrong time when you log out. Uh...I'll just ask Natalia.

Have been poked, prodded, investigated, and tested in Bishop, and am currently spending last miserable ten minutes in LLC with a fever. Puttered around and cleaned a bit; put some spanish files on desktop of computer A for Natalia. I want to heal. I want to healllll

Email el Professor DeLeonibus, discussed various Japanese thingies with Kei and tried to break his mind with this weird Japanese comedy video. His mind was stronger than expected; will have to work on finding something worse.

Message from Adrian

So I think I'll probably be around for this dude tomorrow because I start at 10:15, but just in case he comes earlier I've got a message from the lovely Spanish tutor Adrian. Apparently she couldn't get ahold of this dude Pete who is coming in tomorrow at 10 or 10:20 or whereabouts and he will be mistakenly coming in when she will not be here. So, she gave me a letter to give to Pete and I put it in the shelf thingy. It's taped on the inside of the door. Give it to Pete if I'm not the one doing it. Actually, if I'm the one doing it, still give it to Pete.
More sleep is necessary for me.

Mmmm...

I've been trying to learn the International Phonetic Alphabet and pining for my lovely Rebekah. Do not know what happened to her. Same thing for the lovely Natalia except I know she's on vacation. I am still pining, though.
And with that copious usage of the words "lovely" and "pining," I shall depart from here and do more studying.

night shifty shift

Helped Pietr (is that right?) with his speech thingy, did homework and gradually got more and more fatigued the more I read about these ridiculous political sociology theorists. They put sleep drugs that absorb into the skin on these books, I swear to god.

Found key in pocket after opening up The Room, consequently felt a cold shivering chill running up my spine as I realized the evil little bastard had almost escaped from the LLC again. Took key out of pocket and put it in basket. Felt better.

I unapologetically did this Political Sociology literature review the whole time because I want to graduate.

Shifty shift of shiftiness

Talked to Natalia, peacefully looked at some things in the "internet," and was approached by two German faculty members who wanted a tour of the LLC concerning its capabilities. I managed to stumble through to most of the vital information, I think.
All female workers of the LLC should be on their guard in case a very handsome new German faculty member walks in. I'm not kidding. All females and other susceptible persons take care to brace yourselves; otherwise you may have difficulty speaking intelligibly.

NOT hungry!

Why? This lovely lovely woman named "Rebekah" came in and wanted to know if she could go get me anything from the Montag! I said "yes." And now my stomach is happily full of bagel and coffee, and all is right in the world.
In other news: Natalia says Kei knows how to make the stupid table do things (see pissed off entry about technology), so I gotta bug you about that sometime Kei.

In other other news, I'm working on figuring out Koishi-sensei's Clarisworks 4.0 Japanese word processing problem.
NOTES TO SELF:
1. Figure out whether K-sensei's computer has a version of Appleworks on it.
2. If so, then figure out with Appleworks will be able to convert old Clarisworks documents if you try and open them.
3. If not, investigate other programs. She'll need both a newer program (because old Clarisworks is kaput) and a way to convert the documents she already has.
4. It SHOULD have appleworks...
5. What was Loftus-sensei using? "Jstar"? I could just try and download that if I can, but something tells me it'll be a 1/1000 chance that Clarisworks and Jstar's respective Japanese encodings will be the same.
Bah!

I hate technology

I hate technology.
You may notice the schedule page looks perfectly normal.
However, the table part is currently not a table, but a JPEG. I tried screwing with that stupid table for hours and eons and light years (consecutively), but it did not work. I know there's probably a better way, but I don't know how. What I do know is how to take a screenshot. So, I took a couple of screenshots and Photoshopped them up a bit.
If anybody smarter than me wants to make it not a screenshot, you can find the original schedule page as notfakeschedule.htm in the schedules folder.

Hunger, again

This seems to be an ongoing pattern and may be related to the lack of breakfast I keep having.
Um, yessity yes..uh...I scanned the pages for Igarashi-sensei the other day and now harbor a grudge against the inventor of the scanner.
Also edited the Japanese page a little bit so the comments are less silly. Silly is just dandy but I keep putting the links on job applications...so...yeah.

I went to next door to fiddle with the DVD player, but the tech help gentleman was in there, so I babbled incoherently at him. Vacation means my social skills approach nil. He says he shall change the settings.
...
He did change the settings. He gave me a thumbs up.
Also, I relocated the Japanese in Dreamweaver web page from my public html folder to the Willamette web site and changed the relevant link. And I changed the background of aforementioned web page from "crappy" to "a charming light blue."
Also also, I am going to go to Michael's house and eat food.
Everyone make sure to watch out for Rebekah because she's a dirty rotten Canadian now and might be working to undermine America.

But be careful with the key! I swear to god the little son of a bitch hypnotizes you. Don't let the key mind-warp you with its special brain waves! If it helps, when you put the key in your pocket, chant:
THE KEY THE KEY THE KEY THE KEY THE KEY and do not stop until the key is out of your pocket.

Shifty shifty shiffffft.

The Spanish class came in and watched "Fresh Prince" in English and then Spanish. I helped by sitting around because I didn't know what to do. Kindra was on the ball and in the class, so she did most of the techno fiddly stuff.
Listened to Russian hip hop, opened the Pit for a Spanish student, and accidentally static electrically shocked Kei. I think he may be dying as I type this.

shhhiffffttttttttttt

I actually got sleep last night, and it was the most glorious thing in the world.
I went over to take a little look see at the G5 Mac next door, so as to examine the little built in camera thingy. But lo and behold, when I did just about the exact same thing I did with Fujiwara sensei's computer, it worked this time. But it didn't work the last time. It is quite confusing. Rebecca has offered to help me out by taking a little look-see at F-sensei's computer when she goes to her office for a linguistics experiment thingy tomorrow. Hopefully it'll work for her and I was just too dumb to find the right buttons.
The printer seems to be working now, ish, but has honestly seen better days.

Shifty Shift of Thursday

I listened to the crazy new-agey music leaking into our room from next door. Then, I put on some headphones. Then, I opened up the PIT and the ROOM for someone who wanted to relocate something.
I'd explain further but I like how sketchy that last sentence sounds.
In other news, I updated the Japanese movies part of the LLC website.

A messsaggee from Natalia:

Natalia says, when opening the LLC please don't forget to unlock both that front door (next to the key box thingy) and the back door (linking to the classroom) for in case of fire.
Please also don't put the key in your pocket. I put the key in my pocket yesterday momentarily, thinking "I am aware of the key now. I will not forget the key." Little did I know how insidiously sneaky that little key is! It uses special telepathic powers to make you forget it is in your pocket. Don't put it in your pocket.
No, I wasn't the one who ran off with the key yesterday. It was just a close call.

LLC Shifty Shifty Shift

In which: I changed this link on the LLC Japanese part of the site which was bugging me, I talked with Natalia about meeting with Fujiwara-sensei, and I tried to remember which channel ESPN is on but by the time I had a working plan for finding it the guy I was helping had already found it.

8:21--Poor Natalia has a cold again! And is therefore at home today. I instructed her to snuggle with her kitties and drink some tea...because...uh...tea and cats are proven to kill viruses and bacteria. In any case, if you need Natalia today, call her at home because she's at home.

This quote brought to you by Loftus-sensei, who does not seem to realize the glorious seeds of Nihongo learning he plants in the minds of his students.
Please, somebody go on a quest to find Destinos-Episode 43 for Professor Delgado. Alex opined that it might be in the little LLC room in the classroom next door, but by god if the key didn't work for me. I'm not kidding. The key doesn't work. Is that usual?

Dreamweaver cowers in my presence

I might have mentioned this to some of you before (and during the subsequent explanation bored you to absolute tears), but I have figured out how to make Dreamweaver web pages use Japanese text without turning the text into, say, little bitty boxes or little crazy random characters or little question marks. It displays Japanese text now. If you want to know how to perform this minor miracle, go to http://www.willamette.edu/~athomas/nihongodreamweaver.htm
which is what I worked on during this shift, by the way.
By the way by the way, why is it saying Kei is writing this post? This is actually Anna, not Kei. I put "Anna" in the primary category but it doesn't seem to be displaying my name.

Aw, too bad for you Kei! I guess I'll just have to write terrible foul notes such as "My name is Kei and today I plan to take over the world with my giant laser beam," and keep your name signed underneath.

Morning shift and half hour of glory

Today, I actually was half under the impression that it was Monday until just now. It was one of the strangest feelings ever, because the half of me that wasn't under the impression that it was Monday was firmly under the impression that it was Friday. That's right. Half of me thought it was Friday, half thought it was Monday, and both halves I think were pretty sure of themselves. It was amazing.
So for the morning shift, I was pretty much disoriented. I helped a girl with French word processing, but it ended up that she couldn't open the kind of document she'd made so that mercifully ended quickly.
I shall spend the rest of this half hour of glory straightening up, as Natalia asked me to do. Happy weekend everybody!

During this shift, I did some printouts for the wonderful Natalia, and that was about it.

I also wrote some poetry-type stuff and re-did the website index page because it had accidentally been changed back to what it was before I changed it this morning. Ha ha, oops. I guess that's why we erase sites after editing them.

heyy

It's my shift! Man, am I tired.
So, who's finding the French pictures? Also, what about Classics pictures? I looked around, but couldn't find any folder with French or Classics pictures.
Changed the links on the right side of the LLC index page.

My shift

I put some of the Nakama audio online, talked with Loftus sensei a little bit, griped to Natalia about the hardships of my life, and added a link in the Atelier-Monitor section, the "LLC Blog" link. Hooray!!

Shift/other stuff

Well, we got Adobe Audition installed on one of the computers (the one to the left of the big Easter Island head thingy). I've been fiddling with it trying to do some Nakama audio clips, though I'm not familiar with it and thus it is taking a while. I've got what I did so far (one whole clip!!) on the llc drive.
I'll be back later.
