-the computer second in from the door is having problems, but smart computer people are making it all better- just don't try to use it for now.
-I sent out e-mails to all the students who had study abroad blogs in the old movable type format. Some of them may be coming in to get help importing their old blog files to the new blog format- they should paste the whole collection of files into a single new entry page, save it, then go back and edit to get rid of all the spam that accumulated.
-A spanish group will be meeting in here at 1:30 to work on their video project with Chris.
O Happy day!

-4 silly boys were all watching the soccer game on individual computers with their headphones on. :-)

Tues. Again
Ahhh...the soft pink blossoms of spring are torn from their petals as the mighty winds of the weather deamon laugh at the fragility of Oregon sunshine, and slight yet powerful wind dervishes swirl about the girls' summer skirts, mocking us for our undying hope of blue skies.
other than that- slow day in the lab.
-recorded the French News
-Jen looks really nice today!
-Matt plays pretty music
Ah ha! I am a genius! The reason the French News didn't record is because of... drumroll please... daylight savings! The clock hasn't been reset and so it starts recording an hour too late. Since I figured this out only moments before the News needed to be recorded I changed the recording time for the program rather than resetting the the actual time on the VCR, seeing as how I knew had to do the first and would have needed to figure out how to do the second. In any case, this will affect all other programs being recorded as well, so if somebody today could reset the VCR clock and then double check all recording times that would be awesome!
Thanks,
Caitlyn

The French News is recorded and ready to go in the cabinet.
Natalia is still sick, so everybody think happy thoughts so she can get better!
I installed the IPA compatible font Gentium on the teaching station and Beautiful Zan showed me that you get the symbols to show up by going to 'insert' and 'symbol'. Nifty huh? However she doesn't think this is compatible with Mac OS.
A church called looking for a Portugese translator for a minister from Mozambique- I directed their call to Natalia.

Tues.
It makes me very happy that Alex figured out the glitches in the French news, but I can't figure them out. I couldn't get a channel to come up on the tv in the Room for viewing while recording, and the computer in the corner has a consistently blank PCTV screen. Is that a problem or not? Just in case it IS a problem, I also scheduled today's french news to record on the computer directly to the left, so if students need to watch it on a computer that's where thay can find it!

Thurs.
Slow morning-early afternoon.
-The French news recorded, but er were unable to view it while it was recording. For PCTV I ran it on the computer immediately to the left of the computer we usually use, because the normal computuer wasn't putting out an image.
Also, when the French News VHS is viewed on the 4 little tvs in the classroom, the sound track doesn't seem to be working. Audio comes up, but its not the right audio. I don't know what that's all about...but its no good.
-It would be cool if we could figure out how to hook up headphones to the portable VCR unit in the corner of the lab so that students can watch French news when both the classroom and the viewing room are taken. I think it may need an adapter for the headphone plug.

-I added instructions for how to type french characters on a Mac to the French Grammar page on the website.
-Hristo and Stephan watched a German/Italian soccer game loudly and very enthusiastically.

-Compiled info. on all French programs for use in French Class orientations
-Taped French news in the Room and on the computer (however, the computer won't access recently recorded episodes, says they don't exist. I made sure today's recorded, but it didn't show up in the menu afterwards. I can't find it...I lost it! If anbybody feels inclined to try and hunt down the problem....)
-3 ppl. came in to watch several episodes of French News. (Wednesday's news that Goeury-Richardson taped is kept with the language secretary on Smullin 2nd)

Thursday
French News is all good- recorded both in the room and on the computer. Tomorrows VHS is in and ready to go.
Worked on a brochure for Africa Day.
With the amazing help of both Mateo and Jen I *kind of* learned how to use Dreamweaver and added links to the French Culture page. The formatting was a little thrown off- so we added pics to solve the problem.

Whew...Busy Thurs. shift
After many setbacks and much confusion, Natalia, Hristo and myself were able to access German TV. Yay! I added the new channel into PCTV on all the lab computers, though it refuses to work on about 5 of them. French News was recorded in The Room, and there it will remain. I brought a super-fast VHS rewinder into the Room and plugged it in on the right side of the tv. Please use this to rewind all recorded VHS before bringing them back to the lab. Gaetano's favorite song of all time, "Chanson de Roland", was recorded onto audio Cd, and FINALLY...Instructions have been posted on Seedwiki for how to access episodes that have been recorded on PCTV. They're under 'Video'.
Have a great day everyone!

Tuesday
The lab got busy around 1:00. I could not get either of the tvs in Wal 21 to get a good signal on tv5, and I couldn't the VCR that was timed to record to eject the VHS tape. So...I put Wednesday's VHS into record in Da Room- hopefully its working. That's the story right now, And some girls need to watch a movie in Da Room, so they are going to eject the tape at 1:30 and leave it there, whoever's on next shift should grab that up and see if it recorded...ya.

Thursday
Many wonderful things! Such as, I now know and will share with you that if you need to open the disk drive in a Mac tower, you push the key in the right uppermost corner of the keyboard. Also, I programed the rightmost tv in the little llc room in Walton 21 (what's that called again?) to record french news. Its associated with the topmost VCR, so that's where the tapes should go, and make sure and adjust the 'v-hold' knob so that the picture is coming in clear.

Tues.
Put the Tuesday VHS in to record tv5 in the room, though when I put it in at 12:20 the news was playing on the tv. Hopefully it will play again at 1:00 as well. Jen discovered that the switch in Walton 21 turns on the computer monitor as well as the speakers- which was of much help to the poor professor.

Afternoon shifts...yay! I had the priviledge of meeting the wonderful and talented Jen today, who introduced me to photoshop- such Good Times. Helped a non-traditional student access audio files off of blackboard, and did a little web browsing to find Francophone Africa links to add to the French page, since we have African faculty in that department now. Have a wonderful day!
