I forgot to post an entry last night for my shift, but I was able to somewhat fix the mouse for the Mac closest to the air con. The down scrolling works now, though it isn't always smooth. I basically just turned it upside-down and rolled it around on a piece of paper for a long time. Unfortunately the same technique did not work for the other mouse.
The problem is that there is dirt stuck somewhere underneath the ball of the mouse. Usually rolling it around upside-down loosens the dirt and fixes the problem. If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to try it. For the record, I also tried using compressed air and a damp napkin.
]]>Zack was here, and we printed out copies of the Russian keyboard so that students tomorrow can see what the lay out is. Natalia, Zack, and I discussed how to integrate the Chinese Language Blog further, and try to generate more feedback.
Yi Chuan came as well, and we worked with Natalia to figure things out about the TIUA open house event. Also, we touched on how squirrels behave as pets.
Here is a link to the Amherst guide to Word Champ, as a resource we can perhaps find ideas from it.

Vlad is covering my shift on Friday from 11:30-12:30!
Have a wonderufl spring break!
Anyways, let's get down to business. Messed around with VoiceThread quite a bit today...uploaded two videos of the web short "Diez Minutos," which Maria Delgado requested in the brown bag event this past week. Although I wasn't at the event, I was aware of the video because I was in her SPAN-232 class last term when we watched it. Unfortunately, when we went to watch part two of the video, it had been taken down due to copyright concern.
Since VoiceThread gives you the option to make your shares/posts public, I made the two uploads private and produced a secure URL. In the process of these uploads, I realized a few things. #1: VoiceThread caps free-account users to 25 MB (megabyte) uploads which means that not only did I have to download and convert the video file from YouTube, but I also had to re-size it using Handbrake...which brings me to my next PoC (point of clarification)....#2: when using Handbrake for re-sizing videos, you have many options for resizing, slicing, converting, and downsampling. In this case, it was necessary to re-size the video to meet VoiceThread's 25 MB cap. I found the MP4 video file to be uploaded to VoiceThread much better than an MPEG or other file format.
