Last...shift...ever!
Well, this was pretty typical a shift, except I managed to be out of the room both times Natalia called. Nobody down here but LLC peeps (good luck finsihing Zhanna!).
I cleaned out all the mugs and the coffee machine in The Room, because that's just the kind of guy I am.
I'm going to spend the last 2 minutes of my shift contemplating the past, the future, and the universe. Or something.

Pr. Montero was having trouble getting a DVD to play in her Spanish class. She was using the computer to play the DVD, and for some reason, it was refusing to play the DVD, after it had worked previously in the week. I got the DVD to play on the DVD player, so it worked out, but that's just another thing that's wrong with the computer in Walton 21.

The printer is indeed not working. I called the WITS main office, and they told me to put in a service request. Now, I'm not sure that I'm able to do that — the service request page on the WITS website says that only staff and faculty can get to it. So, that still needs to be done, probably by Natalia.

I got some coffee filters from upstairs, so we can continue to poison ourselves with delicious, delicious caffiene. I called in the Walton 21 monitor problem to WITS, so hopefully they'll fix it soon.

Hey uh so there is coffee in The Room. This is good but it means we all have keep The Room clean.
Natalia has told me that I have executive power over all things coffee. So to that end, this is my decree: Wash the mugs you use and keep the coffee maker clean and stuff. Yeah.
So yeah! We have coffee now. This is an extremely positive development.

I put all the empty water canisters for the water cooler in the closet next to the room, and put the full ones in the hallway in the room. Incidentally, empty water cooler things make awesome drums. I'm just sayin'. Drums.

The only thing that's really going on this shift is the copying of a tape with the 2 VCRs on the teaching station. The recording should be finished in about one hour from now. So about 12:45, 1:00 ish....

Okay. So. The following things have happened since 10:10:
-I got to my shift
-Natalia called me
-I went to the Spanish 232 classroom, to help with the class watching the videos. It looks like every group finsihed except for Group B and Group F.
-I fixed the refrigerator. It was broken beyond repair, but I was able to fix it with my pure will power. Now it runs even better.
-Group B came in and finished, I helped them save a new version of their video. I don't know/care what's up with Group F, but we should probably make sure we save their project files.
-Me and Anna talked about how gender is probably a societal construction and talked about evangelical Christianity and evolution.
-Nobody showed up to cover Rebekah's shift. So I decided to stay because I am awesome.
-Anna got me a quesadilla from the Cat! Thanks, Anna!
-A woman came by to get a CD we made for her. After frantically calling Natalia when I couldn't find the CD, I finally found it in the last place I looked.
-I helped someone set up a Skype account
-Rebekah and Natalia from the city of P-town bearing gifts and bread that smells good
-I wrote a really long blog entry. Now I'm going to go worry about my finals for a while.

Shift
So the Spanish class was here. I did a presentation and they did their work and it was all cool. Thanks to Rebekah, Kei, Kindra, Rositsa, Zhanna and everybody else who helped with that business.
Good news, also — I counted again, and we have the right amount of headphones (25) and splitters (15) again. Weird, huh? I feel like I should steal a couple sets of headphones so that things go back to normal.
Also Rositsa and Rebekah ate the last truffles. Too bad!

There is coffee and truffles in el viewing room. This is an extremely positive development.
Today, I worked out Adobe Elements stuff for the Spanish class that is coming tomorrow morning. Also I helped Natalia clean out the viewing room, drank some coffee and ate a couple of truffles. In short, this was pretty much the hardest work day ever.

Bah!
Okay.....not much to report
However, I noticed the headphones drawer seems empty.... what happened to the headphones? There are only 10 in the drawer (there should be 15), and 10 in the box, so I think we are missing 5 sets (we're supposed to have 25 total). I looked in the MMWR, and there's none there.
If anyone wants to continue looking, in the PIT, the viewing room, WITS Production maybe?

Hey Hey Hey
Today instead of LLC work, I went outside and played in the snow. I know there wasn't much snow, but I made a snowman! (It was very small)
Some things:
-Computer G's microphone still isn't working. Didn't have a chance to check it because somebody was using it during my shift.
-The Spanish projects are starting to wind down. People may need help saving projects as movie files onto DVDs. Natalia has the DVDs in her office.
-If there is a computer problem in Walton 21, or some other place we are responsible for and it is a big problem, call the WITS Front Desk at x6004 and they will deal with it

Miho Fujiwara's class was down here. For the first time, there were actually no reported computer problems or Audacity problems or anything which was nice. Other than that nothing to report.
Dmitriy agreed to take the end of my shift (11:30-1:00), which really saves me...

"Covering" A Shift
Today...
I got one of the Spanish students their external drive. Which are located in the Viewing Room, in case you didn't know. (I didn't know until Natalia told me.)
Also, I/we should familiarize ourselves with how to type in Chinese, or all the other languages that are, you know, different looking. (I still don't know how to do this, despite the fact that Natalia just showed me how to do it.)

Friday in the Morning
So Miho Fujiwara's class was here. Everything went fine, however, it would have been nice to actually know that they were coming. I guess since Natalia's not around this week communication is down, but still.
One thing. I can't find the microphone for computer O. Some students in the Japanese class were trying to use Audacity, and it was gone. I looked, and couldn't find the microphone. I hope it hasn't been stolen.

Friday Mid-morning
Lots of Spanish tutoring meetings today here, but nobody needed my help with anything.
Also no sign of the key.
What I know about Skype - You don't need to use the webcam to use Skype. It works as a phone/instant messenger program primarily, so all you need is headphones and a mic. To use Skype, you need to have an account (those are free) and you need to know that account name or phone number of the person you want to talk to.... That is pretty much everything I know about Skype. There is a webcam function, but I don't remember how it works exactly.

Not too much happened here.
I attempted to help Rosistsa with a bad audio file for her documentary she is working on, I dunno if I was able to actually help or not, we'll find out I guess.
Also, I tried to help a student access German TV, he was hoping to get a different one than the one we have on Channel 54, so I couldn't be much help. (The German resources links to a webpage called GermanTV or something - does that offer extra channels?) But I looked at PCTV, and I noticed that Channel 54 doesn't appear to be working, maybe it was just some temporary goof, or something. I don't really know. Somebody who knows more about PCTV than I do should probably check on that.

Pretty slow down here, mostly. A few folks were working here, but nobody even wanted headphones.
Professor Koishi came down to pick up the CDs we put up on Blackboard.
Also, I went ahead and added the page a link to Anna's publishing Japanese document to the Writing/Grammar Japanese page on the LLC site. Right now It just links to the page, which is on Anna's h-drive, so at some point we should probably upload a copy of the page to the LLC server.
Also I keep noticing site definitions being left on Dreamweaver. You should always delete the site definition on Dreamweaver when you are done working, everytime, so that nobody else can get to the site you are working on.

Friday Mid-Mornin'
Things accomplished today:
-I found the lost LLC key (in my pocket)
-I put all the extra headphone sets into the cardboard box under the printer. It looks like one is missing.
-I organized all the audio clips from Nakamara 1. All the CDs are complete. They can be uploaded to Blackboard now. The audio files are stored on the LLC server. Go to audio_files-->nakama audio --> Nakama 1 Final. They are organized in different folders, one folder is one of each of the seven discs.

Wednesday, 10 til Noon
So, Miho Fujiwara's Japanese class was in here again talking to Audacity. Everything worked well, there were no obvious computer problems. Every computer that didn't work last time seems to be okay now. (Thanks Kei).
We also now have 25 headphones, 11 splitters. At the end of my shift I put 15 of the headphone sets in the drawer. The other 10 I left on the table, and they should probably be put away in the booth. I would have put them away myself, except there is a class in Walton 21 now, so I haven't been able get in there.

10-12 Monday Mornin'
First off, Computer K is being used to record PCTV again. That means it always need to be logged in. This morning I set up a French program to record everyday from 1:00-1:20. I also made a little sign to remind people not to log off.
Um I also helped Elizabeth, one of the Chinese professors, get some music files off Blackboard.
And I re-recorded the Friends video for the Spanish class, and put it on the span365 server. I personally think using Friends on the project should be grounds for an immediate failing grade on the project, but hey whatever.

Maria Delgado's class assembled here, but then after a brief discussion decided they'd only use this room if Maria wants to use the computers/movie stuff, and went back to their old room. She said she'd talk to Natalia about it. So I guess there won't usually be classes here during my shift after all. I can't say I'm unhappy about that.
Also, I watched that Adobe Premier Elements Help DVD, and then, obviously inspired by the new insight I had gained, I failed to help Kindra import a file into Elements for the Spanish class.
Oh yeah and everybody should remember that Pam Smith
