Small University…Big Dreams

Sophomore Katherine Eum ’05 loves the small university experience, because her world has never been larger.

Professors inspire her to greater horizons. New friends deepen her perspective. She’s learning, growing and making a difference. She’s dreaming big and thinking bigger.

Every ounce of Katherine’s considerable energy is being poured into student government meet-ings, planning University events, building shelters for the homeless and teaching kids how to play soccer. She’s doing it all while earning a near perfect g.p.a. with a course load that in-cludes Japanese, chemistry, multivariable calculus and environmental systems under stress.

“I love being at a smaller school,” says Katherine. “I’ve made a lot of friends, I know my profes-sors, and I’m taking advantage of every experience I can here at Willamette.” Katherine’s ex-perience is made possible through support from the G. Herbert Smith Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic and leadership abilities. Schol-arships help support many bright, energetic and capable dreamers like Katherine who bring so much to our University but are unable to afford a Willamette education.
