Alla hjärtans dag (Valentine’s Day)

In Sweden, Valentine’s Day is celebrated almost exactly like it is here in the United States. The exception is that we don’t ask each other to be “My Valentine.” Valentine’s Day didn’t come to Sweden until the 1960’s, which was the beginning of the Americanization of the Swedish traditions. Something we usually do though is send flowers, candy or postcards to our friends and family. Most people will spend their day going to dinner or something like that

But of course Valentine’s Day is not loved by all and many people choose not to celebrate it, saying that it is a waste of money. In my family, my parents have a tradition of giving me and my brothers heart-shaped gelatin candy with sugar on top. It is always delicious, maybe because this candy is generally only sold during this time.

Hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day this year!
