Three worldwide famous French movies

Unlike America, whose film industry is famous all over the world, France has a limited number of movies that have such a broad influence. However, a few ones have had a lot of success, and more and more find their way to the international.
Here is my selection of three French movies which have had a lot of success abroad:

The Big Blue (1988):
Director: Luc Besson
Main Actors: Jean Reno (one of the most famous French actor worldwide), Jean-Marc Barr and Rosanna Arquette
Synopsis: Enzo and Jacques have known each other for a long time. Their friendship started in their childhood days in the Mediterranean. They were not real friends in these days, but there was something they both loved and used to do the whole day long- diving. One day Jacques’ father, who was a diver too, died in the Mediterranean Sea. After that incident Enzo and Jacques lost contact. After several years, Enzo and Jacques had grown up, and Johanna, a young clerk in a security office, had to go to Peru. There she meets Jacques who works for a group of scientists. Johanna gets very interested in Jacques, but she’s unable to get acquainted with him. Some weeks later, back in her office, she notices a championship for divers which is supposed to take place in Taormina, Italy. In order to see Jacques again she makes up a story so the firm sends her to Italy for business purposes. In Taormina there is also Enzo, the reigning diving world champion. He knows that only Jacques can challenge and probably beat him. Their rivalry pushes them both into dangerous territory.
The movie that started Jean Reno’s legend and made him known internationally…
– Leon The Professional (1993):
Director: Luc Besson (again!)
Main Actors: Jean Reno (here he is), Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman
Synopsis: Professional assassin Leon reluctantly takes care of 12-year-old Mathilda when she kicks into his life after her parents are killed, takes her under his wing and teaches her his trade.
An action movie starring Natalie Portman which made her known to the public.
– Amélie (2001) :
Director : Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Main Actors : Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz
Synopsis: Amélie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love.
A great poetic movie about love and happiness to their simplest form. An amazing soundtrack.
Have a great Holiday break everyone!
