The French Happy Hour today was a great success with around 30 people attending to French cheese tasting, baguettes and home-made food such as ratatouille and Provence cakes! Thank you all for coming and making of this event a great moment, hope you had a nice time!

As a matter of fact, students and professors asked me for the recipes of the ratatouille and the cakes, so here they go

Ratatouille:

* 2 onions

* 4 bell peppers (green, orange, red, yellow)

* 2 zucchinis

* 1 eggplant (peeled)

* 10 to 12 tomatoes

* parsley

* garlic

* olive oil

* salt

* pepper

* herbes de Provence

1. Wash and cut all the vegetables except the tomatoes.

2. Put some olive oil in a large pan and when hot enough toss the onions until they become transparent.

3. Toss the rest of the vegetables until they are cooked evenly.

4. In a blender, put parsley, 4 garlic cloves, the tomatoes, salt and pepper and mix altogether.

5. Pour the tomato sauce over the vegetables and leaves the pan on middle heat until the sauce reduced. Add the herbs of Provence.

6. Try and season with salt and pepper according to your taste. Bon appétit!

Gâteau de Provence (Provence’s cake)

* 3 eggs

* 1 cup of sugar

* 2 spoons of honey

* 1 cup of milk

* 1 cup of canola oil

* 2 cups of flour

* 1 tea spoon of baking powder

* 1/2 organic lemon

* 1/2 organic orange

1. Grate the lemon’s and orange’s zest. Squeeze both and keep the juice. In a pan with a bit of water and honey, toss the zest and leave it on medium heat until it absorbs the liquid.

2. Beat the eggs with the sugar, add the honey, the milk, the canola oil, the lemon and orange juice and finally add the flour, the baking powder and the glazed zests.

3. Toss in a buttered mould and put in the oven fro 30min at 300°F

4. Enjoy!

Dégustation de fromages français / French cheeses’ tasting!

Vaut mieux tard que jamais, j’organise enfin ma première soirée du cinéma français à Willamette Mercredi 24 octobre à 19h dans le World Language Studio, salle 101, bâtiment Ford!

Je vous attend nombreux et nombreuses pour la projection de la Journée de la Jupe, un film réalisé par Jean-Paul Lilenfeld avec la très célèbre actrice française Isabelle Adjani. Primé de 3 Césars, dont le César de la Meilleure Actrice à Isabelle Adjani et le César du Meilleur Film de l’année, ce film incarne le renouveau du cinéma français.

Voilà la synopsis du film :

“Sonia Bergerac, professeur dans un collège, est au bord de la dépression nerveuse depuis que son mari l’a quitté. Un matin, elle découvre une arme cachée dans le sac d’un élève. Better late than never, I finally organize my first french movie night at Willamette U on Wednesday, October 24 from 7 to 9pm in the World Language Studio, Room 101, Ford building.

I will be waiting for all of you to show you the Skirt’s day, a movie by Jean-Paul Lilenfeld with the very famous french actress Isabelle Adjani. It won three Césars (Highest French Movie Rewards) among them the César of the best actress for Isabelle Adjani and for the Best French Movie of the Year. Skirt’s Day embodies the renewal of successful French cinema’s industry.

Here is the sypnosis:

“Sonia Bergerac (Adjani) is a French literature teacher who favours wearing a skirt and teaches at a high school in a bad neighborhood. She increasingly resents the daily burden of violence and interaction with unmotivated students, even more so since the departure of her husband.

During the rehearsal of a theatre play with one of her classes, she finds a gun in a student’s bag. She struggles to grab the gun, and a shot is fired accidentally that injures the student’s leg. Totally overwhelmed, she loses control and takes her class hostage, opportunistically creating a proper — although biased — teaching environment.” (Wikipedia.org)

Voilà un mois que je suis à Willamette en tant qu’assistante de français et que je vois régulièrement des étudiants de tous les niveaux apprenant la langue de Molière. Ah, le français, considéré comme la langue romantique par excellence ! Bien sûr, être romantique n’est pas donné tout le monde, mais avec un peu de pratique et d’efforts, tout le monde peut y arriver. C’est exactement ce qui se passe avec la grammaire française, c’est une relation de longue haleine et de patience qu’il faut entretenir avec elle. Il faut bien reconnaître que telle une histoire d’amour, la grammaire française dépasse souvent la logique, la raison et l’entendement ! De plus c’est une relation à envisager sur le long terme, même pour les  natifs francophones : et oui, nous aussi nous avons quelques fois besoin d’un coup de pouce !

Je dédie donc ces quelques sites web à tous les élèves francophones, à tous les francophiles et aussi à tous mes amis qui ne s’entendent pas avec “Mlle Grammaire” !

I’ve been in Willamette for one month and I’ve been meeting a lot of students regularly, from all levels, learning Molière’s language. Ah, French, considered to be THE archetypal language of romance ! Of course, to be romantic is not innate, but with a bit of practice and efforts, everybody can achieve it. It is exactly what happens with French grammar, it is a long and tedious relationship you have to maintain with it. As in a love story, French grammar is often beyond reason, logic and belief! Moreover, it’s a long-term relationship, even for French-speaking natives: yes, we all need to be given a hand once in a while!
