Hey all,

The German Club went to the Activity EXPO and promoted the Club, the German Movie Nights and the board game Nights. We’re proud that so many students signed up and showed their interest for the German Culture and Language.

Here is one nice picture from our stand at the EXPO:
Sara, Isabelle and Maddy

Furthermore, the first German Movie Night was on Wednesday 19. We presented the lovely, sunny and funny movie “Im Juli”.

The students not only got excited about the good movie but also about their new learned vocabularies. We’re looking forward to present you some other brilliant movies and to enjoy cookies and Pretzels together.

By the way, we want to invite you all to the weekly German Lunch and Dinner Tables at Goudy. Just come by and practice your German. The Lunch Table is every Tuesday from 12-1pm and the Dinner Table is every Wednesday from 6-7pm.

We hope to see you all in of the upcoming events!

Hallo!

Isabelle

Hello everybody,
My name is Isabelle and I’m the German Language Assistant for the next year. My Hometown is Koblenz. That’s a small city like Salem. That’s where the Moselle flows into the Rhine and of course you can find there “das Deutsche Eck” (German Corner). I study and live in Trier. That’s the oldest city in Germany and because of that alone worth seeing. My major is German language/literature and my minor is politics. I’m really excited to be in America and I’m looking forward to meet you all. If you have any question or only want to say “Hello”, please visit me in my tutoring hours (Monday-Thursday from 4-6pm) or come to the Lunch (every Tuesday from 12-1) and Dinner Tables (every Wednesday 6-7pm) at Goudy Commons.
If there are some other interesting Events, I will let you know that here on the blog.
And at the very end some stereotypes but also some true facts about the Germans! :)

Mary in Germany!

This picture is pretty cool, because it shows me during a visit to a German 10th grade classroom as part of a project called “Rent An American” run by the Deutsche Amerikanische Institut.  I went as a volunteer American “ambassador” to share American culture with German students, and explain stereotypes.

Spieleabend

Posted by: ibirke | May 3, 2012 Comments Off |

It was a fun night. Thanks for coming! More fun activities presented by the German Club are coming up next semester :)

Whoever is interested in German board games can go down to the LLC. They have a selection of German board games there!

German Movie Night: Run Lola Run (“Lola rennt”)

Posted by: ibirke | February 9, 2012 Comments Off |

Come and join us at the next German Movie Night to watch the thrilling international film success: RUN LOLA RUN (“Lola rennt”)!!!!

Wednesday, 2/15, 7:30 PM in WLT 235, with English subtitles

A thrilling post-MTV, roller-coaster ride, RUN LOLA RUN is the internationally acclaimed sensation about two star-crossed lovers who have only minutes to change the course of their lives. Time is running out for Lola (Franka Potente). She’s just received a frantic phone call from her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu), who’s lost a small fortune belonging to his mobster boss. If Lola doesn’t replace the money in twenty minutes, Manni will surely suffer severe consequences. Set to a throbbing techno score, „Lola’s like a human stund gun!“ – Peter Rainer, New York Magazine.

Kurzinhalt „Lola rennt“:

Berlin. Jetzt.

Last German Movie Night of the Semester

Posted by: ibirke | December 7, 2011 Comments Off |

Take a break from studying and join us for the last German movie night of the semester!

Tonight, Wednesday 12/7 at 7.30 PM in Walton 235!!

Martha, in her own slightly obsessive but charming way, creates sublime masterpieces in the art of cooking as a chef of a small gourmet restaurant in Hamburg. And yet, her everyday existence is rather monotonous. She is introverted, has hardly any private life, and exists only for her work. All of that changes when her sister, a single mother, dies in an accident and Martha has to take care of Lina, her sister’s eight-year-old daughter. The little girl suffers badly from the loss of her mother. It is only the presence of Mario, Martha’s merry Italian colleague, who brings light and pasta into the lives of the two outsiders. He turns from a rival into a loving friend. A sensitive romance starts between them, just when Lina’s long-lost father appears. He wants to take Lina back with him to Italy.
And Martha? Martha has to make a decision.XX

Spieleabend / Game Night

Posted by: ibirke | November 28, 2011 Comments Off |

Last Monday the first Game Night which was organized by the German Club took place. Many students participated and we had a lot of fun! At the beginning the students formed different teams. “Team Die Besten”, “Team Feurschlange”, “Team Kartoffeln” and “Team Wiener Schnitzel” competed in a quiz about Germany (including geography, society, politics and language). Team “Kartoffeln” won the first prize and was rewarded with some delicious German chocolate. In the second game the students had to rely on their drawing and miming skills. Again, the different teams competed with each other. This time they had to draw and mime certain words and the other group members had to find out which ones were presented. All participants did a great job!! Afterwards everyone was rewarded with pizza! Having that meal together was the perfect ending for all in all very successfull game night. Thanks to those of you who participated! We are going to have an other fun game night in the next semester!
