Spanish Conversation Cafe

The Spanish club and the Spanish language learning assistants brings you…

an hour of informal Spanish conversation!

Every Friday morning at 10am at Governor’s Cup coffee shop.

Hola amigos,

Trip to see Ana en el trópico in Portland

On Friday, Jairo and Melina, along with the help of the Spanish department and Spanish club, took a group of Willamette students to see the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ana en el trópico. The play was written by Cuban-American Nilo Cruz, and it details the history of a cigar-making industry that has moved to the United States and its struggle to conserve Cuban tradition in the midst of a modernizing world. It is written to be an analogy of Anna Kerinina, which is read continuously throughout the play by the lector, who was hired to entertain the workers until machines began replacing them around 1930. Professor Delgadillo joined us for the play and accompanied us to dinner at Portland’s finest, Taco del Mar. All in all, it was a great way to spend a Thursday.
